Exploring Functional Medicine

What is Functional Medicine?

Functional medicine is a systems biology-based approach that focuses on identifying and addressing the root cause of disease.

Unlike traditional medicine, which often concentrates on treating symptoms, functional medicine seeks to understand and treat the underlying causes of illness through a patient-centered approach rather than a disease-centered approach.

It integrates traditional Western medical practices with what are sometimes considered "alternative" or "integrative" medicine, focusing on prevention through nutrition, diet, and exercise; use of the latest laboratory testing and other diagnostic techniques; and prescribed combinations of drugs and/or botanical medicines, supplements, therapeutic diets, detoxification programs, or stress-management techniques.
